Solar Energy Hot Water Fact Sheet
Introduction - A solar water heater uses energy from the sun to heat water. Water is heated by the sun as it passes through collectors located on the roof of a house. The main solar collector types are flat plate, evacuated tube and heat pumps. Heat pumps use the reverse of a refrigeration process, transferring heat from the air to the water stored inside the hot water tank. The heated water is stored for use in an insulated storage tank just like a conventional hot water system.

Solar Energy Electricity [Photovoltaic] Fact Sheet
Introduction - Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are usually found on the roof of homes and businesses. The panels harness the sun's energy to generate zero emission electricity. Light energy is converted directly into electricity by transferring photon energy into electrical energy. The conversion takes place within cells of specially fabricated semiconductor crystals.

Wind Turbines & Low Frequency Noise
Introduction - Modern wind turbines can generate noise across the frequency range of human hearing. As with most sounds, some of this energy occurs below the level of human hearing. Human hearing ability ranges from 20Hz to 20,000Hz, with 1dB being the smallest change in noise that humans can detect. Low frequency noise refers to noise in the range of 10 to 200 Hertz (Hz) and infrasound occurs in the range of 20 Hz down to 0.001 Hz – below what the human ear can pick up.

Wind Energy Fact Sheet
Introduction - Wind energy, currently the cheapest renewable energy source, involves the generation of electricity from the naturally occurring power of the wind. Wind turbines capture wind energy within the area swept by their blades. The blades in turn drive an electrical generator to produce power for export to the grid. Sites where there is strong, consistent wind such as South Australia are the most appropriate locations for wind farms. An excellent wind site would provide average wind speeds greater than 8 metres per second at ground level.

Choosing The Right Air Conditioner
Introduction - Doing your homework before you buy an air conditioner can help keep your home cool without blowing your budget. If you decide to buy an air conditioner, first you need to decide what type of system is best for your home. Window or wall-mounted air conditioners are easily installed, but can be noisy. Split systems require more installation but can be quieter to run and are generally more energy-efficient. Ducted systems provide cool air outlets throughout the house.
